Lovely Whippet Oil Painting Dog Art Pet Animal Portrait

Oil on canvas, 8" x 6" x 3/4"

Whippets are graceful looking dogs, of course, but I also really enjoy their patterns of coloring.  The subtle change of color dividing this one's face is so appealing.  The dog is mostly a wonderful creamy-white tone which contrasts with its large dark eyes and nose.  Whippets are also very expressive creatures with just a tilt of their heads or a downturn of their muzzles.

Tulips Waving Watercolor Painting Flower Art Still Life Garden

Watercolor on stretched canvas, 12" x 12" x 3/4".

I experimented with a different approach to a watercolor in this floral painting.  The canvas I used has a special sizing that accept watercolors and the finished painting is sealed with a clear acrylic protectant which is archival.  The surface of the canvas accepts the paint differently than paper.  I think I like the way it stays more on the surface of the painting and it's also much easier to "lift" the paint back to a lighter shade or even back to white.  I really appreciate the fluidity of watercolors, and in this painting, I had a great time shaping the tulips and leaves with a feeling of energy and movement.

Bluebird's House Oil Painting Bird Portrait Art Animal Wildlife Spring

I found a sweet hand-crafted birdhouse this year and was so excited that a bluebird couple was filling the hole with twigs and dried grass. The colors of the bluebirds are perfect for this house!  I hope they stay and I've been providing mealworms for them to eat.

Robin and Nest Oil Painting Bird Portrait Art Animal Wildlife Spring

A friend of mine has a robin's nest in a pot hanging on a wall outside of her kitchen window.  Both the male and female were taking turns sitting on their eggs on the rainy day when I was visiting.  It was serious business!  I really liked the expression of this parent.  Three blue eggs were inside, so there may be another painting from this visit.
